Wishlist: Products Shoppers Save for Later
Shoppers save products to a wishlist on your storefront and find them again on any device they sign in on.
Overview
Shoppers save a product with the heart on its product page, and open their list from the heart in your storefront's header (it shows how many items are saved). The list is at /wishlist on your store.
There is nothing to set up: every storefront has it, on every plan.
Saved on the device, and on the account
- A shopper who is not signed in keeps the list on the device they saved it on.
- A signed-in shopper's list is also kept on their account, so it follows them to every device they sign in on. A list started before signing in is merged into the account's list.
- Removing an item on a device takes it off that device and off the account.
Adding to the cart from the list
Add puts the product in the cart. A product that comes in options (a size or a colour) goes to its product page instead, labelled Choose options, because the option has to be picked before it can be bought; checkout refuses an item with options when none was chosen. Voice search and the gift registry do the same for such a product.
Back in stock and price drop emails
A signed-in shopper can ask to be emailed about the items on their list. The box sits at the top of their wishlist page, unticked, next to a sentence that names your store, its mailing address and how to reach you, and says what will be sent and how to stop it. Nothing is sent to anyone who has not ticked it.
Once it is on, the shopper gets an email when an item on their list:
- comes back in stock: it could not be bought when they last heard about it, and now it can;
- drops in price: the price they would pay for one now (your price for that storefront, after your pricing rules and any live flash sale, in that storefront's currency) is at least 5% and at least 0.50 lower than the price they last heard about. A price that goes up and comes back down again is not a drop; several small cuts add up until they make one.
How the emails behave:
- At most one a day per shopper. Anything else that comes up waits for the next email, and is checked again first, so an item that sold out again in the meantime is not announced.
- Only for products you are selling there. A product you hide, archive, stop selling on that storefront or have not priced for it is left out, as are gift cards and Network Search partner items.
- In the shopper's language, with links to the products and to their wishlist.
- From your own email domain only, with your store's footer and a one-click unsubscribe. A store without its own email domain, or without a mailing address on file, sends none. The box is not offered at all without a mailing address.
- Never to an address that unsubscribed from your store's emails or that bounced or complained. The shopper sees on their wishlist page why alerts cannot be sent.
The shopper turns the emails off from the same box, or with the unsubscribe link in any of them. When they tick the box, the exact sentence they saw, the time and their IP address are recorded, along with every later change, and they are included in the copy of their data the shopper can download from their account.
Good to know
- A product you hide, archive or stop selling on a site no longer shows in the list there.
- A shopper's saved list is part of the copy of their data they can download from their account.
